Heritage B&B Accommodation on the Great Ocean Road

A Heritage listed building built in 1865, Elliminook was established as luxury bed and breakfast accommodation in 1991, answering a need for accommodation in the blossoming Birregurra area. 

Owners Jill and Peter Falkiner took up an idea suggested by local restaurant owner George Biron, who was setting up Sunnybrae at the time, and established the historic rural retreat. Elliminook has evolved over the years into one of the region's premier luxury b&bs. Over the years facilities have been added including the South Wing Apartment for family and group accommodation.

Located on 74 acres and nestled among a large historic garden, Elliminook was built by John Davenport Bromfield, a prominent local grazier, as a "commodious brick homestead of 14 rooms".  It is the epitome of a rural retreat where guests arrive through a sweeping driveway flanked by privet and box hedges past century old trees and manicured gardens.

The home has a high slate roof and wide verandahs which complement the garden and a gorgeous croquet lawn located beside a magnificent shady elm, a tennis court and a huge Buny Buny Pine which dominates the front lawn, Irish strawberry trees, a Cedar of Lebanon and spectacular Australian natives Kurrajongs and an Illawarra flame tree.

Inside the elegant homestead all renovations have been done with a respect for the house's history and an eye for detail. An impressive passageway of Baltic pine flooring and a stained-glass archway lead to the beautifully decorated and furnished guest sitting room, dining room and bedrooms. The gallery overlooks the bluestone paved central courtyard which is bordered with prolific iceberg roses.
